MGMA Statement on Introduction of the Medicare Physician Data-driven Performance Payment System Act of 2026 (April 30, 2026)
Anders Gilberg
Senior Vice President, Government Affairs
Medical Group Management Association
“For years, MGMA members have expressed frustration with the significant administrative burden associated with reporting under MIPS. This burden is exacerbated by the MIPS program's tournament-style model, which increases payments to practices that meet onerous quality reporting requirements by cutting payments to practices that don’t. The bipartisan Medicare Physician Data-driven Performance Payment System Act of 2026 makes important changes, such as eliminating the tournament-style model to stop punitive cuts, freezing the performance threshold, and ensuring medical groups receive timely performance feedback from CMS. MGMA looks forward to working with Congress to pass this important bill.”
