    MGMA Government Affairs created a member-exclusive resource on the 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule.

    The 2027 PFS proposed rule was released on July 14, 2026, and includes provisions that would:

    • Set the 2027 Medicare payment rates for physician services, maintaining two conversion factors based on qualified participant (QP) status, both with decreases from 2026;
    • Reform the methodology for practice expense Relative Value Units (RVUs);
    • Make significant changes to remote monitoring services;
    • Sunset the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) following the 2028 performance period;
    • Make numerous changes to the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP).

    Many of these policies are proposed to take effect in 2027, and practices should prepare for operational and financial adjustments accordingly. Stay tuned for additional resources from MGMA about how the proposed policies will impact your practice.
