    Kim M. Pierce, MD, MBA
Medical Director Ambulatory Quality & Population Health, Independence Health System

I was born and raised in a small town near Buffalo, New York. Initially, I pursued a career in banking as a Marketing Officer, but this path ended when the RTC closed our doors during the Savings and Loan crisis in the early 90s. Given the opportunity to pursue a new career, I decided to embark on the profession of medicine. I attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed my Residency Program in internal medicine in 2001. Following this, I joined a primary care practice where I was responsible for inpatient care, hospital consultations, and maintaining a robust ambulatory care practice.

In 2004, I moved to Magee Women’s Hospital, where we established Magee Women’s Internal Medicine. This primary care practice provided the first hospitalist service for our in-house breast oncology program and offered medical consultations for high-risk obstetrical and surgical inpatients.

From 2007 to 2015, I practiced inpatient and outpatient medicine at Heritage Valley Sewickley Primary Care. Afterward, I joined Allegheny Health Network and established an outpatient primary care office with a focus on women’s health and executive wellness.

In 2020, just before the Covid pandemic, I moved to Butler, PA, with my husband, son, three horses, and a dog. Here, I joined and established a primary care office at Butler Health System (now Independence Health System). I devote part of my time to transforming primary care in a community setting and developing quality-based programs for physicians, care teams, and our patients, focusing on our healthcare system’s move to an integrated collaborative system where everyone benefits.
