In this week’s episode of the MGMA Insights podcast, we’re joined by Richard Pan, MD, MPH, FAAP, a pediatrician and Democratic State Senator representing Sacramento, Calif. Pan, who chairs the California Senate Committee on Health, discusses how the medical community can promote clear messaging about the pandemic and how physicians and practice leaders have the opportunity to be the trusted voice to patients and their communities.
Pan recently partnered with Bill Frist, MD and former Republican Senate Majority Leader, and Max G. Bronstein, founder of the Journal of Science Policy & Governance, for a STAT article encouraging clinicians to begin having conversations with their patients now to discuss the potential benefits and risks of a COVID-19 vaccine before one becomes publicly available in order to start driving adoption of community immunity.
“A lot of people are looking to a vaccine to help solve our pandemic problem,” Pan said. “But a vaccine alone is not enough.”
