In 2023, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced the voluntary MIPS Value Pathways (MVP) reporting program under the Quality Payment Program (QPP). CMS’s goal for MVPs is to align reporting across a medical practice or specialty group, ensuring that reported measures are relevant to a specialty, medical condition, or patient population.

CMS intends for MVPs to serve as a bridge to value-based care arrangements and, ultimately, to sunset the MIPS program. While CMS has not yet proposed an official date, it plans to require practices to report under either an MVP or the Alternative Payment Model (APM) Performance Pathway (APP) in the future.

The registration window to report an MVP is open from April 1, 2026, to November 30, 2026. An individual, group, subgroup, and APM Entity may register to report. Registration is open from April 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026, to administer the CAHPS for MIPS survey measure.
